New Releases – November 9, 2021

Aimee here with another great week of new releases gracing the shelves of The Haunted Book Shop!

Young Adult


Every generation at the coming of the Blood Moon, seven families each name a champion to compete in a secret tournament to the death. Co-written by Amanda Foody and Christine Lynn Herman, All of Us Villains follows four of those chosen to compete for exclusive control of a secret wellspring of high magick long thought depleted. Like a lot of people in the days of pandemic lockdown, I binge-watched a lot of New Girl and laughed at actor Max Greenfield’s (aka Schmidt) Instagram videos showing the struggles of virtual learning. So I was really excited to hear about I Don’t Want to Read This Book written by Schmi-I mean, Max-and illustrated by Mike Lowery. Words, sentences, and even worse, paragraphs fill up books. Ugh! So what’s a reluctant reader to do? Enter this high-energy and hilarious picture book perfect for those kids (and adults) who think they don’t want to read books. Hashtag excitement!

Interrupting Chicken: Cookies for Breakfast is the latest book featuring David Ezra Stein’s little red chicken! When the little red chicken wakes up bright and early on a Saturday morning craving cookies for breakfast, she tries to persuade Papa by jarring him awake and inserting cookies – and herself! – into every nursery rhyme they read together. Will the early bird get the cookie? Read along and find out!

Comics & Graphic Novels

Available for the first time in paperback, The Dark Horse Book of Horror takes readers on a journey through the darkest corners of the horror genre with tales from Mike Mignola, Evan Dorkin, Jill Thompson, Gary Gianni, Robert E. Howard and more. Get ready to be scared out of your minds!

Dracula: Son of the Dragon by Mark Sable and Salgood Sam brings the original digital series Dracula: Son of the Dragon into this collection. For those looking for a little more humor, Murder Book: A Graphic Memoir of a True Crime Obsession by Hilary Fitzgerald Campbell might just be the answer! This humorous graphic investigation into the author and New Yorker cartoonist’s obsession with true crime attempts to answer the question, Why is it so much fun to read about death and dismemberment? We have so many new releases coming to The Haunted Book Shop this week that I hope our new releases window display can handle them all!

Local Interest

History buffs and foodies alike are sure to enjoy A Culinary Tour Through Alabama History! Author Monica Tapper “serves up a stick-to-your-ribs trek through Alabama history, providing classic recipes modified for the modern kitchen along the way.”

In April 1861, President Lincoln declared a blockade on Southern ports. Engineers built elaborate obstructions and batteries, and three rows of torpedoes were laid from Fort Morgan to Fort Gaines.
